Senior Art Director

As a Senior Art Director, you are an emotionally intelligent storyteller who thoughtfully brings attention-grabbing concepts to life with your toolbox of various visual mediums. Your day-to-day involves generating ideas, developing concepts, and determining the look and feel for brand communications. As an active collaborator, you'll work with peers to build work that gets noticed and inspire clients to brave new visual paths through artfully crafted pitches.

Skills Required:

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Primarily: Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign)(Secondarily: Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Sketch, InVision, Figma, XD, Animate, After Effects, Lightroom, Bridge and Premiere)

  • Ability to generate ideas and concepts

  • Knowledge of photography and video production

  • Strong sense of typography, color theory, and composition

  • Knowledge of print, broadcast, and digital communications

  • Attention to detail and visual precision

  • Ability and willingness to stay on top of current trends, industry knowledge, and develop new skills

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with copywriters to generate a volume of ideas and concepts

  • Develop and maintain the visual look of a project or campaign ensuring the work is consistent, distinct, appropriate, engaging, and that communication is clear

  • Lead the collaborative visual development of projects and campaigns by guiding teams, producers, and partners with a clear direction from start to finish

  • Maintain awareness of trends in culture and industry producing new thinking and looks for clients and the agency

  • Research and understand client's needs, brand, products, audience, and competition

  • Minimize subjectivity by developing creative strategies to sell ideas and concepts

  • Find, recommend, and select vendor partners (e.g. photographers, retouchers, video production houses, editors, sound mixers and illustrators, etc.)

  • Development of shot lists, treatments, and visions for capture

  • Strong ability to present visions and plans with producers, partners, and clients

  • Direct photo and video shoots ensuring the vision is met and the shotlist is captured

  • Selection of image assets post-capture providing retouch direction to partners and presenting for approval with account to clients

  • Building positive working relationships with all team members, vendors, and clients

  • Inspire and motivate teams to create their best work; promote the environment for creativity to flourish

  • Provide clear, timely, and helpful feedback to improve creative output and processes, keeping work on budget and schedule

  • Articulate vision, ideas, and concepts to peers and clients — listening and reacting to feedback appropriately

Position Summary

The Sr. Art Director performs all tasks related to graphic design in support of Marketing efforts. Responsible for managing projects autonomously, completing assigned projects by the deadline, and working closely with account and production while directing Jr. Designers.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Design and Project Implementation

  • Responsible for design concept generation, layout, design, and photo selection for assigned pieces

  • Work on a wide variety of projects for in-store activation including but not limited to POS, direct mail, FSI, and web layout

  • Participate in project meetings with creative, account, production, and concepting team and be able to communicate the rationale behind design executions

  • Utilize available design software to manage project files from layout to print-ready

Project Management

  • Manage creative team to meet job objectives within production and time constraints

  • Meet deadlines, expectations, and satisfactory completion on jobs assigned by Creative Director or Creative Leader

  • Work within program budgets, identify revenue-opportunities, and cost-savings while maintaining client relationships

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Direct Reports

Hires, retains, trains, coaches, guides, directs, and develops direct reports using company-wide processes, tools and resources

Indirect Reports

This position does not have guidance or mentoring responsibilities for indirect reports

Travel and/or Driving Requirements

  • Travel is an essential duty and function of this job. Driving is not an essential duty and function of this job.

  • Travel up to 10%

Minimum Qualifications

Education Level: (Required): Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Field of Study/Area of Experience: Advertising, Graphic Design, Communications, or Journalism

  • 3-5 years of experience in similar industry

  • 3-5 years of experience in Design or Director and a strong portfolio of professional creative work

  • 2-4 years of experience in the consumer products, media, or agency business

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills

  • Strong prioritization skills

  • Ability to ensure a high level of service and quality is maintained

  • Team building Skills

  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines

  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle a fast-paced work environment

  • Ability to complete multiple duties with accuracy shifting from one to another with frequent interruptions and competing deadlines

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web-browsers

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), ability to hear the telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
